JNTUH CGPA to Percentage

JNTUH converts a final CGPA to a percentage as (CGPA − 0.5) × 10. The formula is the same in R18, R22 and R25. Enter your CGPA to see the percentage and your class.

Formula

Percentage = (Final CGPA − 0.5) × 10

Final CGPA is your cumulative grade point average at the end of the programme, on a scale of 0 to 10, rounded off to two decimal places. 0.5 is the fixed amount taken off the CGPA before multiplying. 10 is the multiplier that turns the result into a percentage scale. R18 and R22 clause 11.2 and R25 clause 19.1 all give this same formula.

Worked example

Student A has a final CGPA of 7.84. Student B has a final CGPA of 8.00 and follows R22.

Student A: 7.84 − 0.5 = 7.34, then 7.34 × 10 = 73.40 percent. Under R22 a CGPA of 7.84 is First Class, because First Class runs from 7.00 up to below 8.00.

Student B: 8.00 − 0.5 = 7.50, then 7.50 × 10 = 75.00 percent. The percentage is straightforward. The class is not. R22 gives Distinction only above 8.00 and First Class only below 8.00, so Student B’s exact 8.00 is in neither. The calculator says so rather than guessing. R18 has a narrower version of the same gap: at exactly 8.00 it gives Distinction if you meet the conditions, but names no class if you do not. Student B should ask the college how the result is shown.

Grade table

JNTUH awards the same letter grades and points in R18, R22 and R25 (clause 9.2 in R18 and R22, clause 10.3 in R25). R22 and R25 also list Ab for absent, worth 0 points. The R18 table has no Ab row.

Class by final CGPA

The class is read from your final CGPA. The bands differ between regulations, so pick yours in the calculator. A CGPA that lands in the Distinction band gives First Class with Distinction only if you also meet the conditions listed under each table.

R25 (clauses 17.3 to 17.6)

ClassFinal CGPAClause
First Class with Distinction7.50 or more17.3
First Class6.50 to below 7.5017.4
Second Class5.50 to below 6.5017.5
Pass Class5.00 to below 5.5017.6

For the Distinction, R25 also needs all of these. Miss one and the class is First Class.

For the Distinction, R22 also needs all of these. Miss one and the class is First Class, except at exactly 8.00, which the wording places in no class.

A final CGPA below 5.00 is not eligible for the award of the degree. (clause 12.7)

Certified copy from JNTUH

If a form wants a conversion certified by the university, JNTUH student services lists a certified copy for CGPA to Percentage (or Percentage to CGPA) on its downloads page. It needs a request letter and copies of your CMM, PC and OD certificates. We have not checked a fee, so read the current terms on that page before you apply.

Which figure to quote

This page applies the regulation formula to the CGPA you type in. It does not issue or verify a certificate. Your marksheet and your college have the final word on the figure for any official purpose.

Questions students ask

Which formula does JNTUH use to convert CGPA to percentage?

Percentage of marks = (final CGPA − 0.5) × 10. It appears in clause 11.2 of the R18 and R22 B.Tech regulations and in clause 19.1 of R25. R18 and R22 say the formula may be used, and R25 says it shall be used whenever a conversion is needed.

Is the formula different for R18, R22 and R25?

No. All three give the same percentage for the same CGPA. What differs between them is the class: the CGPA bands for First Class, Second Class and Pass change from one regulation to the next, so check the class table on this page for yours.

How do I know which regulation applies to me?

JNTUH lists each regulation with the academic session it applies from: R18 from 2018-19, R22 from 2022-23 and R25 from 2025-26. Your college can confirm which one your batch follows. The percentage does not depend on the choice, only the class line does.

Can I get a certified CGPA to percentage copy from JNTUH?

JNTUH student services lists a certified copy for CGPA to Percentage (or Percentage to CGPA) on its downloads page. It asks for a request letter and copies of your CMM, PC and OD certificates. This page does not state a fee because we have not checked one. Read the current requirements on the student services page before you apply.

What class do I get with exactly 8.00 CGPA under R22?

The R22 text does not say. Distinction needs a CGPA above 8.00, and First Class stops below 8.00, so exactly 8.00 falls between the two. Ask your college how it is treated. R18 puts 8.00 in the distinction band only if you meet the conditions; if you do not, it names no class for exactly 8.00 either. R25 starts distinction at 7.50.

Does the percentage change the class on my degree?

No. The class is decided on your final CGPA, as set out in the regulation, not on the converted percentage. The percentage is only an equivalent figure for forms that ask for one.
