AKTU Scrutiny, Challenge Evaluation and Revaluation

The B.Tech Ordinance 2018-19 (Revised), in force since session 2018-19 and still the version AKTU links as of September 2026, covers this in one short section, clause 17, titled Scrutiny and Re-evaluation. In full, it reads:

“17.1 Scrutiny and re-evaluation shall be allowed in only theory papers.”

“17.2 Revaluation of theory/practical papers is permitted only with certain conditions as laid down by university.”

That is the entire clause. It names three related ideas, scrutiny, re-evaluation and revaluation, without defining any of them separately, and it hands the actual procedure, fees and conditions over to the university rather than fixing them in the ordinance itself. The ordinance gives no fee, no deadline and no description of what scrutiny or revaluation actually involves. For all of that, you need AKTU’s circulars, not the ordinance.

AKTU used to run Scrutiny and Challenge Evaluation as two named processes side by side. Circulars calling for Scrutiny applications appear every year from 2011 through to August 2022, the last one we found dated 18 August 2022, for the even semester 2021-22 cycle. From around 2023 onward, every circular we found on this topic uses only Challenge Evaluation, run in two stages, opened and closed through the ERP portal for a set window each semester. Challenge Evaluation is the operational form clause 17 takes in practice today, even though the ordinance text itself never uses that term.

Stage 1 is not a re-evaluation. It is a chance to see your own answer script before deciding whether a full recheck is worth paying for. A circular for the odd semester 2025-26 cycle, dated 21 February 2026, set a Stage 1 fee of roughly 300 rupees per paper, paid online through the ERP portal within a window that circular gave as 21 February to 5 March 2026. In exchange, you receive a scanned copy of your evaluated script.

This matches the pattern clause 17.1 implies with the word scrutiny: a check of how your paper was marked, not a request for someone else to remark it. Treat Stage 1 as the step where you confirm whether a mistake looks likely, before committing to Stage 2.

Stage 2 is the paid re-evaluation, what the ordinance calls revaluation in clause 17.2. The same 21 February 2026 circular put this fee at roughly 2,500 rupees per paper, and stated that part of it, around 1,000 rupees, is refunded if the re-evaluation raises your marks by 20 percent or more. A different examiner assesses the script, separately from the one who marked it the first time.

We are reporting these figures as they appeared in that one circular, not as a fixed AKTU rate. Fees for Challenge Evaluation are set per examination cycle and have appeared in circulars going back several years, so treat the numbers above as an example of what one cycle charged, not a current price list. Clause 17.1 limits scrutiny and re-evaluation to theory papers. Practicals sit under clause 17.2 instead, where revaluation is allowed only under conditions the ordinance leaves for the university to define elsewhere. If you are looking to challenge a practical, viva or sessional mark, expect a narrower process than for a theory paper, and check the specific circular for your semester rather than assuming the same two-stage process applies in full.

AKTU opens and closes the ERP portal for Challenge Evaluation on fixed dates each semester, and these dates move from cycle to cycle. The general pattern, based on the circulars we checked:

1. AKTU issues a circular naming the semester and session covered, with the Stage 1 window.
2. You log in to the ERP portal and apply for Stage 1 within that window, paying the fee it states.
3. You receive your scanned script and decide whether to proceed.
4. AKTU issues a separate circular for the Stage 2 window, sometimes weeks later, sometimes extended by a follow-up circular if the first window is short.
5. You apply for Stage 2 within that window if you want the formal re-evaluation.

The ordinance text we hold does not state a fee, a refund rule or an application window for scrutiny, re-evaluation or revaluation. Everything on fees and refund conditions in this guide comes from one dated circular for one cycle, not from the ordinance, and AKTU can and does change these figures between cycles.
