Formula
Percentage = CGPA × 10 (current rule) Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 (older rule)
CGPA is your Cumulative Grade Point Average, on a scale of 0 to 10. Percentage is the marks percentage the formula converts it into. 0.75 is the fixed deduction used only in the older rule. 10 is the multiplier both rules use. Both rules convert the same 0 to 10 CGPA scale into a 0 to 100 percentage scale. The only disagreement between them is the adjustment applied before the multiplication.
Worked example
Student A has a CGPA of 8.66.
Under the current rule: 8.66 × 10 = 86.6 percent. Under the older rule: (8.66 − 0.75) × 10 = 7.91 × 10 = 79.1 percent.
The two rules give different answers for the same CGPA, 86.6 against 79.1. AKTU’s B.Tech Ordinance 2018-19 (Revised), in force since session 2018-19 and still the version AKTU links as of September 2026, uses the current rule, CGPA × 10. The older rule comes from an earlier version of the same ordinance document. Unless you have a specific reason to use the older figure, such as a college form that still quotes it, the current rule is the one to quote.

Where this formula comes from
This conversion comes from clause 15 of the B.Tech Ordinance 2018-19 (Revised), the version currently linked from AKTU’s ordinance page. Its text states that the conversion formula for CGPA into percentage is (CGPA) × 10. The original 2018-19 PDF also sits on that page and gives a different formula, (CGPA − 0.75) × 10. AKTU’s official X account confirmed the current formula directly in a reply dated 11 August 2023: marks in percentage equals CGPA × 10. If you need a percentage figure for a job application or an admission form, ask AKTU for a conversion certificate rather than quoting a number from this or any other calculator. Questions students ask
Which formula should I use, CGPA × 10 or the older one?
Use CGPA × 10. It is the formula in AKTU's Revised 2018-19 ordinance, the version currently linked from the university's ordinance page, and it matches what AKTU's own X account confirmed in August 2023. The older formula, (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, comes from an earlier PDF of the same ordinance.
Why does AKTU have two different formulas online?
AKTU's ordinance page links two versions of the B.Tech ordinance: the original 2018-19 document and a later Revised version. Clause 15 differs between them. One version subtracts 0.75 from the CGPA before multiplying by 10, the other does not. Both PDFs are still live, which is why calculators disagree.
Will AKTU accept a percentage figure from this calculator on an official form?
Treat it as a guide only. The calculator applies the ordinance formula to the CGPA you enter. It does not issue or verify an official document, and forms that need a certified percentage want paperwork from AKTU itself, not a number from any calculator.
Does the percentage change if I improve my CGPA later?
Yes. Percentage is calculated directly from CGPA, so any change to your CGPA, for example after clearing a carry-over subject, changes the percentage figure. This is true under either rule, current or older, since both work straight off your CGPA.
Is the percentage the same as my marks percentage in each subject?
No. This percentage is a single figure converted from your overall CGPA using the ordinance formula. It does not reflect the actual marks you scored in individual subjects or exams, which can vary a lot from this converted number.
Is the 2018-19 ordinance still current in 2026?
Yes. 2018-19 is the session the ordinance took effect, not its last update. The Revised version is still the one AKTU links from its own ordinance page, filed under the 2021-22 syllabus tree, and its percentage rule was confirmed by AKTU's X account in August 2023. This page shows the date we last checked it.
