Formula
CGPA = Percentage / 10 (current rule) CGPA = (Percentage / 10) + 0.75 (older rule)
Percentage is the marks percentage figure you start with. 10 is the divisor both rules use. 0.75 is the fixed addition used only in the older rule, the reverse of the deduction in that rule’s percentage formula. CGPA is the result, on a scale of 0 to 10. Both rules assume the percentage you enter came from a genuine CGPA conversion in the first place, so an unusually high or low figure is worth double checking against your marksheet.
Worked example
Student A has 79.1 percent on a document.
Under the current rule: 79.1 ÷ 10 = 7.91. Under the older rule: 79.1 ÷ 10 + 0.75 = 7.91 + 0.75 = 8.66.
The two rules give different CGPAs for the same percentage, 7.91 against 8.66. Student A needs to know which rule produced the 79.1 on the document, not just the number itself. A document issued under the current rule already used CGPA × 10 to get that percentage, so reversing it with Percentage ÷ 10 is correct only when that is the rule that produced it in the first place.

What the ordinance says
AKTU's ordinance page still links both the original and the Revised 2018-19 PDF. Clause 15 differs between them, which is why online calculators disagree.

Where this formula comes from
This calculator reverses clause 15 of the B.Tech Ordinance 2018-19 (Revised), in force since session 2018-19 and still the version AKTU links as of September 2026, which sets percentage as CGPA × 10. The original 2018-19 PDF also sits on AKTU’s ordinance page and uses (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 instead, which reverses to CGPA = (Percentage ÷ 10) + 0.75. AKTU’s official X account confirmed the percentage formula, CGPA × 10, in a reply dated 11 August 2023. The percentage figure itself usually comes from a marksheet, which you can check on AKTU Results 2026.
Carry-over, grace marks and divisions
A CGPA worked out from a percentage figure already carries the effect of any subject you failed and later cleared, since a carry-over pass changes the SGPA and CGPA behind that percentage. Questions students ask
How do I convert my percentage back to CGPA?
Divide the percentage by 10. Under AKTU's current ordinance rule, CGPA = Percentage ÷ 10, so a percentage of 86.6 gives a CGPA of 8.66. This is simply clause 15 of the Revised ordinance worked in reverse.
Why would I need to convert a percentage into CGPA?
Some forms or older records show your result as a percentage rather than a CGPA, and you may need the CGPA figure for a different application, scholarship or comparison. This calculator applies the ordinance formula in reverse to give you that number.
Which rule should I use to convert back?
Use the current rule, CGPA = Percentage ÷ 10. It matches clause 15 of the Revised ordinance and AKTU's August 2023 confirmation on its X account. Use the older rule, which adds 0.75 after dividing, only if you are working from a document that used the older percentage formula.
Can this calculator give me an exact CGPA if I only know my percentage?
It gives you the CGPA the ordinance formula implies from that percentage, not a verified record. Your actual CGPA, as recorded by AKTU, is the figure on your official marksheet. Use this tool to estimate, not to replace that document.
Do I need official proof of my CGPA if I only have a percentage?
If a job or admission process specifically needs a certified CGPA figure, yes. Ask AKTU for a conversion certificate rather than submitting a number worked out on this or any other website, since official processes generally want the university's own paperwork.
